Mount Dennis BIA is hosting a virtual presentation for the forthcoming exhibition by acclaimed Canadian photographer Robert Burley.

This virtual talk will take place over Zoom. Tuesday, January 24, 2023, 12 to 12:30 p.m.To celebrate their first Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival installation, the Mount Dennis BIA is hosting a virtual presentation for the forthcoming exhibition by acclaimed Canadian photographer Robert Burley.To launch the theme of Photography in Mount Dennis, the BIA will share a preview of Burley’s images of the Kodak Factory and related urban spaces.The Kodak Factory in Mount Dennis is the site for the forthcoming Eglinton Crosstown LRT transportation hub. Burley’s images will be presented in super-large format and mounted on the exterior of the Mount Dennis Branch of the Toronto Public Library and on local billboards during the Scotiabank CONTACT Photography Festival from May 1 to May 31, 2023.Robert’s most recent body of work is captured in Princeton Architectural Press’s book, ‘The Disappearance of Darkness’, that examines both the dramatic and historical demise of film-manufacturing facilities and industrial darkrooms. Between 2005 and 2010 Burley travelled the globe documenting the destruction of film-based photography institutions (Kodak, Polaroid, Agfa, Ilford). Burley began the project in Toronto in 2005 when he discovered the century-old Kodak Canada complex was being shut down.–Established in 1974, the Mount Dennis BIA is located along Weston Rd., running north and south of the main intersection at Eglinton Avenue West – from Ray Avenue in the north to Lambton Avenue in the south.
