Join us for a fascinating journey through Canada's industrial design landscape with John Arnott, exploring its economic impact firsthand!

Industrial Design (ID) activity began somewhere around 1847, long before anyone imagined it might become a profession. It was then that Mr Massey first started making farm implements for other farmers and found that to be more profitable than farming! Where much recent ID media has focused on appearances, this talk will examine the considerable impacts of the profession on the Canadian economy and culture. It will also view some future potentials for a revival of the profession in our post-globalisation environment.This hybrid event features 50 in-person attendees as well as virtual attendees participating via zoom. The in-person event begins at 6:00pm with a networking and socializing session with drinks and light refreshments. The virtual portion begins at 7:00pm.John's talk will be followed by a Q &amp; A period.P﻿lease note that this event will be recorded and the recording will be shared through www.IDSA.org/TOR page. About our Speaker:Mr. John Arnott, RCA, ACID, IDSAMr. Arnott is the past President of Canada’s professional industrial design association, ACID, and a long-time member of IDSA. In November 2022, John was inducted into the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts for his lifetime industrial design achievements for the design and arts communities. John is well recognized for his strategic leadership skills, both domestically and internationally. Over the years John and his team helped create over 250 products and systems from simple plastic household goods to a very complex experimental Air Traffic Control System for Transport Canada. He now concentrates his efforts on helping companies develop strategies for customer delight, environmental responsibility, and economic success.
