What is Indigenous Knowledge? What is the respectful role for Indigenous Knowledge in government decision-making? and what should be in an “Indigenous Knowledge Framework?There are environmental crises affecting Indigenous Nations in Canada. First Nation Elders, Knowledge Holders, leadership, harvesters, practitioners, and youth are rightfully deeply concerned. First Nations have long called for more respect and inclusion of Indigenous Knowledge (“IK”, also known as “traditional knowledge-TK”) and Indigenous values in government decision-making.A few years ago, Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) declared their intention to increasingly work with Indigenous Knowledge (IK) and IK Holders. Elders in AFN’s Council of Knowledge Holders suggested to ECCC that they should learn more about IK, IK Holders, and IK Systems. Neil Jones, Anishinaabe, Bimoset Makwa Environmental Research and Consulting, has been contracted by the AFN to produce a report to address the learning that is needed. In order to prepare this report, AFN is organizing workshops throughout the country and wants to hear from First Nations in British Columbia. The purpose is not to gather Indigenous Knowledge but to discuss IK Systems found in First Nations in BC, and the development of an IK Systems Framework which would enable the Federal Government to respectfully engage and make decisions informed by IK.Who should attend? -First Nations’ Elders, IK Holders, leadership, harvesters and technicians whose work is related to IK and its inclusion in decision-making processes. Please inquire if you are interested but unsure.Travel expenses: 	Funding is limited.
