Do Ugly Things Creative Lab

Do Ugly Things Creative Lab

Overview

A 4-day creative workshop to expand your arts knowledge and get creative! No experience necessary.

MAKE BAD ART.

This workshop is an introduction for people who want to start creating art. The word “artist” can feel intimidating, but anyone can develop a practice without specialized training. Through experimentation, simple tools, and playful exercises inside and outside the workshop, this series of events works more like a creative laboratory than a traditional class.

All art materials will be provided for the activities, and artists will be able to take home a creative care package of the tools used in the workshop to continue making art in the world. There is NO COST with any part of this workshop series.

Lab 1 / March 14:

Learn about the artists' most important tool: the sketchbook! This lab will have you make your own pocket-sized sketchbook and explore easy and fun creative exercises to spark your inspiration, learning how to pull creativity from everyday activities and objects around you.

Lab 2 / March 21:

Learn how to think and look at the world like an artist. We will continue to build off of the last lab, using our sketchbooks for more technical and conceptual work, while still engaging in out-of-the-box fun activities.

Lab 3 / March 28:

Learn how to create. Exploring more technical concepts such as color theory and composition, build your skills in the creative process. Engage in mixed-media, exploring outside your comfort zone with materials you haven't tried before.

Lab 4 / April 4:

Make your own piece! This last day will be spent making a piece of art that will be on a community display board at the Stinesten Gallery in your own mini group exhibition. Celebrate the steps and the progress you've made with your peers!
