OBJECTION! Why its important and when and how to do it WELL

WomenEducating inLaw andLife was created by women from both the Crown Attorney’s Office and the Defence bar who saw the need to foster discussion, mentorship and collegiality amongst women in the criminal bar.  Our objective is to create a forum for female members of the criminal bar to share practice tips, gain insight into how to improve and expand advocacy skills and, most importantly, build supportive relationships and collegiality across the courtroom.

Join us for a panel of counsel and judges who will provide tips on objecting and responding to objections.

Toronto Lawyers Association (TLA)

Two panels made up of prosecutors, defence counsel and judges from the Ontario Court of Justice and the Superior Court of Justice will discuss one of the essential tools required when examining witnesses – the ability to object to and respond to objections during the course of a trial. Our panelists will identify what rules of evidence and caselaw every lawyer must know in order to deal with objections, as well as the strategic decisions behind when and how one should object or respond to an objection. Come and hear from members of the Bench regarding the art of being civil and effective when objecting or responding to an objection.The panel, moderated by Rosemarie Juginovic, will include Justice Maureen Forestell (SCJ), Justice Breese Davies (SCJ), Justice Susan Chapman (OCJ), Ashley Dresser (defence counsel), Hilary Dudding (defence counsel), Corie Langdon (crown counsel) and Jill Witkin (crown counsel).
