About the Play

A half-blind grandfather and his grandson arrive at an optometrist's office with a shotgun. They need glasses, they explain, so that Grandpa can finally find and shoot "Karol" — though neither of them can say who Karol is. Written by the Polish master of the absurd, Sławomir Mrożek, this sharp one-act comedy turns a routine eye exam into a darkly funny study of fear, obedience and how easily anyone can be named the enemy.
