Chantal Chagnon is a Cree/Métis Multidisciplinary Artist, Educator, Knowledge Keeper and Activist with roots in Muskeg Lake Cree Nation, Saskatchewan. Cultural Wisdom and Traditional Ceremony are always present in her Teaching Artistry, as she carries her Ancestral Knowledge forward in a good way. Offering Storytelling, Songs, Drumming, Cultural Teachings, Traditional Indigenous Craftsmanship, Art Creation and collaboration has allowed her to share throughout Canada and the World.
Chantal has been handcrafting drums for over 40 years, learning first from her Mooshum (great-grandfather) when she was 5 years old. Each instrument is impeccably made using traditional knowledge and contemporary techniques to create unique and beautiful pieces of art. Every animal used has a special significance and teaches us something for our journey. Each style of weaving on the back of the drum also holds lessons for us.
These living artifacts can be used as an instrument, spiritual guide, or healing tool. Chantal will share the teachings behind the drums as we create them together. We will also create drumsticks and learn songs to accompany the drums on the journey forward.
