<h1>EAL 101</h1><h2>Wednesday, January 18, 2023, 5:30-8 pm</h2>In-person at Manitoba Teacher’s Society,191 Harcourt Street, WinnipegTarget Audience: This workshop is open for all educators and administrators.Tickets: Only Remote Access tickets are available. When registering, please choose: M﻿ini-PD: Remote Access: $5.00Description: This session will cover an introduction to EAL. Topics covered will include:<ul><li>An overview of MB Education EAL/LAL documents, including the new Initial Intake document as well as parent resources available on the website</li><li>Student Specific Plans</li><li>EAL/LAL Stages, Early Years through Senior Years</li><li>Community Resources, such as NEEDS Inc and Family Dynamics</li><li>Behavioural Characteristics</li><li>Social/Emotional Strategies</li><li>Teaching strategies and adaptations</li><li>Cultural Identity</li><li>Resources</li></ul>This session will be presented by the EAL Team from St. James-Assiniboia School Division:<ul><li>Lisa Desmarais is an LAL/EAL Curriculum Support Teacher. She had taught in France, South Korea and Egypt for many years. Lisa completed her M.Ed. with a focus on English as an Additional Language.</li></ul><ul><li>Daria Orloff is an EAL Curriculum Support Teacher for Early and Middle Tears and works at the Professional Staff Development Centre. Daria has over 20 years of teaching experience at the early year’s level. Teaching and traveling through Asia sparked an interest in the field of EAL, which led to the completion of her M.Ed. in Second Language Acquisition. </li></ul><ul><li>Lori Ostermann works as an EAL Curriculum Support teacher, focusing on both Early and Middle Years. She is part of a team that works toward the positive social, emotional, and academic growth of all EAL learners. Lori also collaborates with teachers in adapting material, instruction, and assessments. </li></ul>
