Join Artist Sara Ross to weave a small tapestry on the theme of earth.
Earth Weaving Workshop
Where: Open Space Art Gallery, 510 Front Street
When: Saturday May 30, 2026 from 11AM - 3 PM
Artist: Sara Ross
Join multi-disciplinary Artist and Activist Sara Ross to weave a small tapestry on the theme of Earth. All instruction and materials will be provided, including a box loom and gorgeous, locally sourced, soft-fibre weaving materials. Beginner to advanced weavers welcome.
Can we experience Earth with our heart, mind, body, and spirit? Through our weavings, and through our time together we will wonder about our connections to Earth. What places do we love? What plants raised us? Do we ever connect with or praise Earth? How?
Participants in Sara’s Earth Weaving Workshops will be invited to contribute their weaving to become part of the Earth Blanket, being prepared as a gift to Ye-Ye (Grandmother), and becoming part of Honouring Our Grandmothers Healing Journey. Gifting is optional, and you are welcome to take your tapestry home if you prefer.
If you haven't experienced this Season of Honouring Our Grandmothers Healing Journey, on now at Open Space Gallery (viewable at the workshop), you can learn some history of this movement at CBC Video (2min30sec).
A word from Nadine Spence: The finished Community Earth Blanket weaving will accompany the community 'Elements' chest. This weaving workshop is an invitation for multi-cultural community members to collaborate to learn simple weaving, support, participate and maybe to have a better understanding and respect of the natural elements that connect us all, Indigenous peoples and the Honouring Our Grandmothers Healing Journey.
