EDI Basics: Understanding Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Open to all Sheridan students, Staff, Faculty This Basic EDI (Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion) Training is designed to provide students and participants with a foundational understanding of key concepts in EDI. Through interactive discussions and practical exercises, attendees will explore how to create inclusive environments, examine personal biases, and actively engage in allyship. The goal is to equip participants with the knowledge and tools to foster respect, equity, and equal opportunities in both academic and social settings.EDI Basics: Understanding Equity, Diversity and InclusionIn addition to an understanding of the terminology, and developing self-awareness as it relatesEDI principles, upon completion of the training, individuals will be able to:<ol><li>Define and understand key EDI terminology including:</li></ol><ul><li>Equity</li><li>Diversity</li><li>Inclusion</li><li>Belonging</li><li>Unconscious Bias</li><li>Privilege</li><li>Cultural awareness &amp; sensitivity</li><li>Microaggressions</li><li>Allyship</li><li>Advocacy</li></ul><ol><li>Understand the impact of actively applying or failing to apply EDI principles to everyday</li></ol>life<ol><li>Understand how to identify and address microaggressions, unconscious bias and</li></ol>privilege<ol><li>Understand the importance of cultural awareness and sensitivity</li><li>Understand the role of an ally and why allies are necessary</li></ol><ol><li>Understand what active allyship looks like</li><li>Understand the difference between allyship and advocacy</li><li>Understand how to actively demonstrate allyship</li><li>Understand the importance of trauma-informed approach when engaging with others</li></ol>Facilitated by Deborah Moriah.
