Empathy Week 2021

Humainologie is a not for profit charity based in Calgary, Alberta. We centre​ and celebrate emerging creatives and day-to-day change agents who have experienced systemic barriers because of their race, colour, gender, sexuality and/or ability. We exist to contribute to their uprising. Through storytelling, events, and individual support, we aim to share their stories, amplify their unique contributions to the world, and celebrate their whole humanity.⁠ Humainologie has produced close to 40 short films since 2015 and has received over 20 film festival selections and about a dozen awards internationally. Current funders include Calgary Arts Development, the Government of Alberta, Dr. Arthur Clark and the Estate of the Late Dr. Irma Parhad.

Empathy Week is a seven-day digital festival of events that promote empathy, human connection, and the recognition of our shared humanity.

<h3>Empathy Week is curated by Humainologie and is a community initiative with numerous Calgary partner organizations and individuals coming together to host a variety of events. </h3>Empathy Week 2021 will be hosted digitally by way of Zoom and Instagram Live (<a href="https://www.instagram.com/humainologie/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">@humainologie</a>). All Zoom events require pre-registration. All events are free, but we do humbly accept donations on a sliding scale between $5 and $20. We refer to empathy as the ability to step into the shoes of another; to imagine what they may be thinking and/or feeling. Empathy helps us create strong relationships and healthy communities.Does Empathy mean feeling exactly what someone else feels?No, it doesn’t. We can never know exactly what another person is feeling or be able to exactly replicate those feelings, but we can make an attempt or an estimation.Are Empathy Week events free?Events are free and we offer a sliding scale for donations.Is Empathy Week for everyone? Empathy Week includes varied programming suitable for diverse audiences with wide-ranging interests. The diversity of programming will continue to grow as our festival does in the future. We cannot guarantee the ability to do so in all cases however.
