Welcome to Evolving Rhythms Conference Workshops

Experience movement traditions from across the African diaspora through an immersive series of dance and music workshops, technique classes, jam sessions, and special events as part of The Evolving Rhythms: African Diaspora Movement Practices in Canada Conference in Edmonton, Alberta.

Hosted at Mile Zero Dance Studios and additional featured venues across the city, these workshops bring together acclaimed artists, cultural practitioners, musicians, scholars, and community leaders for dynamic explorations of rhythm, storytelling, heritage, technique, and embodied knowledge.

Participants will engage in a diverse range of practices including Ghanaian dance foundations, Guinea traditional dance and music, Caribbean Folk, Barbados Landship Dance, Afro-Contemporary movement, Bamaaya and Kete techniques, Embuutu Drum and Dance, and more. Whether you are a beginner, emerging artist, experienced mover, or community member interested in cultural exchange, these workshops offer opportunities for learning, connection, and celebration through movement.
