Exploring Job Pathways - Combining Data-Driven Insights + Human Centred Design

Shocks and disruptions arising from COVID-19 have affected millions of Canadians and their jobs, with some companies, sectors, and workers hit especially hard. These impacts come on top of existing drivers of change, such as digitization, automation, and offshoring, which were already reshaping employment and employer demand. This online event will explore how different actors understand the workforce and skills challenges that Canada is facing, as we aim for long-term recovery and shared prosperity. This event is also a chance to learn from BII+E’s most recent Job Pathways initiative, including how to access newly-tested approaches and tools. We will share lessons learned from the Job Pathways in Food Retail initiative, which examined options for mid-career job transition for people working as clerks and cashiers in Ontario’s food retail sector. Learn how to access free, open tools for applied virtual research and design - from tools to leverage labour market data to ethnography-inspired approaches using the messaging platform WhatsApp. Speakers include: <ul><li>Sharon McLennon - Director of the Newfoundland &amp; Labrador Workforce Innovation Centre (NLWIC)</li><li>Kimberly Bowman, BIIE+E Job Pathways project lead</li></ul>
