About this Event

Exploring Sumptuous Silk Blends

Don’t get me wrong, I love colour. But there is something compelling about natural-coloured silk in blends. As we delve into the world of mulberry and non-mulberry silk in blends, you will come to appreciate the impact your choice of silk can have on lustre, colour, hand and texture.

I will share how I use my blending board and hand cards, giving you tips and tricks to create rolags and rovings that are lovely and smooth or slightly more textured and edgy. The fibre we have selected for you to explore includes: honey-beige tussah, golden muga, pearlescent white eri, slightly textured Indian Bombyx, mohair and three silk blends (one with Merino, one with flax and the other cashmere).

Although spinning wheels are not be required for this workshop, I will share tips for spinning these beautiful fibre preparations.

$95 workshop fee includes materials supplied in the workshop which retail at $45.

Along with your materials, you will be receiving a coupon from Sanjo Silk Ltd for 10% off your next fibre or yarn purchase.

Please be sure to include your email address, mailing address and phone number in all communications. Closer to the time of the class, an email with additional information and access code to the zoom on-line class will be sent to the email address you include. Note: Eventbrite calendar reminders, do not require any response on your part.

• Two dowels approximately ½” in diameter, which extend approximately 7.5” beyond the carding cloth. Note: This is included in Ashford’s Blending Board Kit.

• Blending brush or dog brush. Note: Blending brush is included in Ashford’s Blending Board Kit.

· Optional…stiff bristle brush the width of the carding cloth. i.e. wallpaper brush.

· Optional: If you have leftover bits or bobs of natural coloured sliver, roving or tops in your stash, you are welcome to have them available for blending.
