<h3>B﻿ackground</h3>Whether we are environmental practitioners or concerned citizens and family members, mounting ecological troubles can be a challenge to absorb and respond to. Words like anxiety, fear, grief and even despair are now commonly used in discussions of extinction, pollution, habitat destruction, wildfire, deforestation and climate disruption. While there are obvious political, social and technological dimensions to our troubles, what are the emotional and spiritual tolls of a world that is changing faster than we can make sense of? Rather than taking sides in the tug-of-war between hope and despair, facing ecological grief is a skillset for cultivating resistance, resilience and reverence. Facing grief, speaking our anxieties and wrestling with hope are gestures that ground us in a refusal to turn away from the wounded body of our earth, the plight of impacted peoples and the survival of vulnerable creatures.The Faculty of Environment and SFU Vancouver are pleased to invite you to join us to explore ways we can develop this skillset, build resilience and work together to create a more sustainable future.

Please take time to view "Wanderings through the Delta" (2023)" directed by Christopher Pavsek which will be featured throughout the day in the lobby."Wanderings Through the Delta" was shot and recorded entirely in the Fraser River delta in January and February of 2023. From the fog on the delta the film draws lessons about the human relationship to the animals who call it home — above all birds — and our capacity to know about their existences. It patiently observes these animals and the landscape where they live as it changes before our very eyes and ears in the wake of historical and ongoing human encroachment. "Wanderings" provides a moving, and on occasion stark, portrait of this biologically magnificent, at times stunningly beautiful, and always woefully under-protected area.
