The FASD Network is pleased to announce the first “FASD Sessions.” This conference will be held in Saskatoon and Regina to increase accessibility for out-of-town attendees. FASD Sessions 2017 will include a full day of Frontline training followed the next day by presentations from two Canadian experts actively working in the field of FASD, Dr. Peter Choate and Dr. Jacqueline Pei. Attendees will have the option to register for both days at a discounted rate or either day separately.

Our first FASD Sessions will center on the theme of “Challenging the Conversation.” Together, each of us can learn the true information about FASD. Informed individuals can become advocates, we can challenge the incorrect conversations about FASD and enhance the lives of those living with the disability. 
Dr. Peter Choate - "The Impact of Stigma for Clients and Professionals" FASD has been subject to large scale stigma that impacts both clients and those working with them. The language of prevention, diagnosis, intervention combine with a variety of other stigmas which clients face to create compounding, complex stigma pathways for clients. As a result, stigma is inter-sectional, disempowering and isolating resulting in segregation along with increased dependency on institutional involvement. The workshop will raise a conversation about how we might address stigma. As well, participants will be asked to contemplate the impact of stigma on their own professional identity and position within the health care and helping professional networks. This will be an interactive workshop. Participants will be asked to work on specific questions posed around changing the dialogue of FASD and stigma.
Dr. Peter Choate is a Registered Social Worker and Member of the Clinical Registry, Approved Clinical Supervisor for the Alberta College of Registered Social Workers. He is an Assistant Professor of Social Work at Mount Royal University.  
Dr. Jacqueline Pei - "Supporting Success in Individuals with FASD" In this session, we will review current state of the research related to intervention with individuals with FASD. We will discuss the impact of growth mindsets on shaping our approach to intervention that targets both the individual as well as the support system. We will consider the value of 'destination goals' and explore our roles in identifying and supporting success trajectories in all individuals with FASD.
Dr. Jacqueline Pei is an Associate Professor in the Department of Educational Psychology and Assistant Clinical Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Alberta. Also a practicing Registered Psychologist.
