What are the forces and relations that activate your practice? What frames reveal or conceal your work? How are you engaging your ethics of practice with respect to current contexts? How do these shifting contexts both collapse and expand possibility for your work?As part of her disorientation project, Dance Centre Associate Artist and scholar P. Megan Andrews invites participants to a series of experimental conversations to explore these questions in relation to various themes together with invited guests. Listen and/or contribute as you choose.This conversation will be run through Zoom. The link to access the event will be included at the bottom of the booking confirmation email. Please note that capacity is limited. Registration closes at 3pm on February 7.Jeanette Kotowich is a Vancouver-based, independent, dance artist and choreographer of Cree Métis and European ancestry. Originally from Treaty 4 territory Saskatchewan, Jeanette creates work that reflects a Métis cultural narrative within the context of contemporary Indigenous dance performance and Indigenous futurism. Her new full-length solo, Kisiskâwican, premieres in 2021. During the pandemic, Jeanette has created a series of short dances for film, included in several festivals in 2020. (Photo: Daniel Paquet)Kevin Fraser is a Jamaican-born Queer, international dance artist, actor, facilitator and creative director currently residing on the unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations. He is the creative director of art/activist collective, Immigrant Lessons and the co-founder of queer art collective The Coven (with Ralph Escamillan and Ross Wirtanen). His multidisciplinary approach supports his mission and dream to explore decolonial art/practice and to create more opportunities to uplift, connect and heal marginalized and oppressed communities. (Photo: Yohan J Kim)Pam Tzeng is a Canadian Taiwanese choreographer, performer and producer of the live and contemporary based in Mohkínstsis / Calgary. Currently, her heart and interdisciplinary practice are focused on creating a new body of work as Dancers’ Studio West Artist in Residence and contributing to equity and anti-racism change in the arts as co-conspirer of the 35//50 Initiative, CitizenArtistsYYC, and Cultural Instigators YYC. (Photo: Mike Tan)P. Megan Andrews, PhD, is a settler dance artist and scholar, movement educator and writer/editor. Her artistic research queries the aesthetics of ethics through practices of movement, voice, perception and relationality, and through critical-poetic writing and dialogue. Megan’s passions are movement and communication, which manifest across her project portfolio in diverse ways: creation/performance, research/writing, teaching/facilitating. She is a Visiting Scholar at the Institute for Performance Studies at SFU, associate artist at Scotiabank Dance Centre and the BC Program Manager for the Dancer Transition Resource Centre. Also a Certified Laban Movement Analyst and Registered Somatic Movement Educator/Therapist, Megan coaches individuals and groups in embodied literacy. She holds a PhD in Communication and Cultural Studies. Megan recognizes and acknowledges the traditional, ancestral and unceded territories of the Qayqayt First Nation and the Coast Salish peoples of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), and Səl̓ílwətaɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations where she lives with her husband and daughter.
