FLY BOY
A kafkaesque one person multi-character performance using physical theatre, mask work, and puppetry to explore issues of masculine desire.
Theatre In The Round presents its premiere theatrical performance FLY BOY at Christ Church Cathedral on March 20, 2026 at 7:30 PM.
Written and performed by Francis Mennigke creator of Theatre In The Round, FLY BOY kicks off the brand new company's repitore in Canada. Theatre In The Round is a live performance company that creates work emphasizing the power of the witnessing community to bring about healthy transformative change.
FLY BOY is a minimalist theatrical performance that uses the performers body, text, puppetry, and mask-work to explore how masculine desire is materialized societally thorugh behaviofully accepted norms. In leu of his performance based masters research in South Africa; Francis is curious about the unique ability for performance to make visible the aspects of human behaviour that remain, sometimes conveniently, invisible.
The creation of the performance was inspired by a curiosity with current and historical socio-political constructs of mascluline desire and how these desires are reified through behavioural norms. The play uses a metaphorical story to question these norms while offering space for transformation.
Doors will open at 7:00pm, the show starts at 7:30pm, and ends at 8:30pm. So feel free to wander in, take a seat, and enjoy the beautiful Cathedral space before the performance starts.
For those who wish to stay and engage there will be a post performance discussion.
