About this Event
We all know how important daily exercise is for our health; but let’s be honest… we don’t always enjoy doing it. What if pleasant memories from our past could inspire physical movement for us today? This program offers fun and playful approaches to getting fit!
Join Melissa DeSmet, a Calgary based physiotherapist to experience new ways of enjoying the most natural movements of our day. Using elements like guided visualization and incorporating your own memories, Melissa will lead participants through simple, creative, and fun exercises for both the body and the mind. People of all ages and abilities are encouraged to join.
What you will need:
- Comfortable clothing
- Water bottle
- A pool noodle and a balloon (optional)
- An open mind
Sessions will take place online though the platform Zoom
Get to Know Melissa:
Melissa founded Homebody Health Inc. in 2013, with the mission of helping Calgarians relax and enjoy movement in their homes with the help of physiotherapy. She quickly discovered there was no one “go-to” place patients could visit to review the lessons she teaches about intuitive movement in her sessions.
She also felt it was important to share with others the things she learns about “just right support” and intuitive movement from givers, carers and care recipients every day.
She teamed up with Sebastion Lecona, CEO of Kataplasma who helped bring together a diverse group of professionals from the arts and sciences fields. Together, they collaborated on "Discover MoveMEnt-" a collection of in-hand physiotherapy resources expected to be available for purchase starting on December 1st.
This group of collaborators is not afraid to blur the lines between structure and imagination in order to enhance the wellbeing of people who rely on others for help. Together they have found a way to gamify physiotherapy services, whether or not the individuals who use these services are comfortable using a computer.
This is the first of its kind in the field of physiotherapy, and it is paving the way for the future of healthcare services to come.
