Who can attend?

Any adult grieving the death of a loved one is welcome. There is no timeline for grief—you do not need to have had a recent loss to attend. Grief Cafés are open to any grieving community members; you do not need to have a prior connection with Hospice Fredericton to take part.

Question 2

What can I expect during a Grief Café?

You’ll be greeted, sign in, and receive a nametag (first name only). We start in a large circle where you can share who you are, who you’re grieving, and your hopes for the café (sharing is optional). After a coffee break, we continue with small-group discussions and close with an optional checkout.

Question 3

Who leads the Grief Café?

Grief Cafés are led by members of our Grief & Bereavement team, including Social Workers and trained Grief & Bereavement volunteers. Each facilitator has specific training in grief reactions and processes to help create a supportive and compassionate space.

Question 4

What if I become emotional during the Grief Café?

This is completely okay. Grief Cafés are a safe space where all emotions are welcome. We have guidelines that normalize and support emotional expression, ensuring a compassionate and accepting environment. You are encouraged to engage in whatever way feels right for you.

Where do Grief Cafés take place?

All Grief Cafés take place in the Centre for HOPE on the 3rd floor of Hospice House (621 Churchill Row, Fredericton, NB). Enter through the main entrance off the visitor parking lot on the corner of Churchill and Regent and one of our volunteers will help direct you to the Centre.

Is the space accessible?

Yes, the Centre for HOPE is wheelchair accessible, and we strive to accommodate all needs. Please reach out if you have any specific accessibility concerns.

Question 7

Is there a cost to attend?

Accepted Answer

We strive to keep grief support accessible, so Grief Cafés are free to attend. If you wish, you can donate to Hospice Fredericton when you register. Please note, as per CRA regulations, we cannot provide tax receipts for donations given in exchange for a service.

Do I need to register to attend?

Pre-registration is recommended as space is limited, but drop-ins are welcome if there is room.

Is parking available?

Accepted Answer

Participants are welcome to park in the visitor lot of Hospice House, located on the corner of Regent Street and Churchill Row. Street parking is also available.
