Who can compete?

Accepted Answer

Participants must be Canadian post-secondary students or international students attending a Canadian post-secondary school. You must be currently enrolled in a post-secondary school or have graduated in the past 6 months. Proof of eligibility will be required to claim prizes.

Is there a cost to enter?

No, entry is free! You'll also get some swag and complimentary meals at the event.

Question 3

How do I find a team?

Accepted Answer

Your team must consist of 2-4 people. If you have teammates in mind already, great! If not, look on the @Hack Discord for other solo hackers to create a team with.

Question 4

Can I join as a beginner hacker?

Accepted Answer

For sure! The beginner category is for students who have computer science experience but have not yet participated in a CTF. Register here today, then attend our hacking workshop on January 20 to get familiar with how CTFs work - the link for the workshop is in the event description above!

Question 5

What are the 2 levels of entry?

Accepted Answer

The @HackCTF beginner category is for students who have not taken part in a CTF before. The @HackCTF regular category is for students who have experience with CTF events and are ready to take on a challenge. Your team will confirm your category at the event before hacking begins.

Question 6

Where will I sleep?

Accepted Answer

Whether you prefer to stay up all night hacking or take a break for a power nap, is entirely up to you. There will be designated areas for sleeping if you choose to stay (bring your own pillow/blanket), or you can leave the event to sleep at home. Hacking can only be done at the venue!

What about food?

On Saturday, March 7, we will provide hackers with a light breakfast, dinner, and late night snacks (it's up to you what you do for lunch!). On Sunday, March 8, we will provide breakfast and snacks before the event ends at 1:00 pm. When you register, please let us know of any dietary restrictions.

What else is going on during the hackathon?

In addition to the challenges, we have other fun activities happening over the weekend. There will be a career fair where you can meet with employers, activities where you can compete with your friends, and networking opportunities with event partners and challenge organizers.
