A Question of Care (QoC) is a Peterborough-based capacity-building initiative focused on building and strengthening skills, knowledge, and awareness to address the intersections between substance use, stigma, mental illness, and trauma. Participants will be able to attend online or call-in over the phone.Course DescriptionAn in-depth look at harm reduction as a foundational model for health and social services. This interactive multimedia workshop series will invite participants to engage in several core principles that comprise harm reduction as related to substance use. Through large and small group discussions and various group and individual exercises, participants will cultivate a more concrete understanding of harm reduction and work to develop an assortment of tools and strategies to better implement harm reduction practically in their professional and personal lives.Learning Objectives<ul><li>Gain an understanding of the principles and practices of harm reduction;</li><li>Understand the role of stigma in the negative health outcomes for People Who Use Drugs;</li><li>Learn about common harm reduction supplies and their uses, including safe disposal practices;</li><li>Gain an understanding of harm reduction programming in our community.</li></ul>Facilitator BiographiesCarolyn King (she/her/hers) | PARNCarolyn’s role as the Harm Reduction Works Program Coordinator at PARN is to coordinate and support a dynamic team of outreach workers who serve Peterborough, City of Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton, and Northumberland in all things harm reduction. This includes the distribution of safer drug use supplies and safer sex supplies, training and education for service users and service providers, and community development through strategic partnerships throughout the four counties. Carolyn is a champion of lived and living expertise in the field of substance use supports and services.Lora Keitel (she/her/hers) | PARNLora Keitel is a Harm Reduction Outreach Worker with PARN. She began her journey at the University of Ottawa where she completed her undergrad in Criminology; however, her dreams of becoming a police officer changed to an intense drive for social justice, especially for change in drug policies. This led her to complete a dual diploma in Social Service Worker &amp; Mental Health and Addictions Worker with an Indigenous Lens Designation from Fleming College where she completed placements with PDS and PARN. Working in Peterborough and the four counties, Lora has been busy connecting with service users and service providers to bring them harm reduction supplies, education, and training around safer drug use, naloxone, safe disposal, and how harm reduction is already a working part of our community. We define &quot;helping professional&quot; as anyone in a position of interacting with people in providing a service.How many people can attend?Registration for this workshop series has been capped at 35 participants.What is a level one core QoC workshop series?This refers to a workshop series that is a part of QoC&#x27;s core curriculum and is offered at a more basic level, though it can be beneficial to anyone regardless of their experience in the field.Do I need to attend all of the sessions?Ideally, you will be able to attend all of the sessions, but you must be able to attend at least two out of the three. Attendees will receive certificates of attendance for participating in a minimum of 2/3 sessions.Will these sessions be recorded?No. These sessions will not be recorded in order to maintain the privacy of participants. The session slides, however, will be sent out.What is your refund policy?We can offer refunds up to seven days before the first session. Eventbrite&#x27;s fee is nonrefundable. After this period, we can accept substitutions.
