Hilot Energy Workshop

Kathara Society is a community-based non-profit organization composed of artists, community workers, advocates, retirees, students, caregivers, TFWs, and professionals. Kathara is multi-generational, multi-ethnic, first and second-generation Filipinos & Canadians. We strive to center the indigenous voice while including other ethnicities that support cultural survival. Kathara is dedicated to the promotion of Philippine Indigenous People’s rights (including Manobo, Bagobo-Tagabawa, B’laan, Mandaya, Ati & Igorot), art and culture through community events, peace education, public performances, & advocacy. Kathara works cross-culturally in solidarity with Aboriginal communities of Coast Salish Territory, Indigenous peoples worldwide, and social movements on climate justice, environment, and human rights. We have received a grant form the City of Vancouver for Kapwa Fest 2018: The Art of Our Relations, to which we will be using to offer workshops to all parts of our diverse community

<P><STRONG>Join us</STRONG> for one of the many workshops offered by the Kathara Society. <EM>All of our workshops are by donation however no one will be turned away for lack of funds.</EM> <STRONG>RSVP is required for this event. </STRONG>Hilot Filipino energy healing massage combines heartfulness, manipulation, stretching, energywork..releasing energy blocks by allowing the clients to understand negative energies..directed to positive energy flow.</P>

<H2><STRONG>Hilot (/HEE-lot/) is an ancient Filipino art of healing. </STRONG></H2>
<P>A <I>manghihilot</I> (Hilot practitioner) and the <I><A CLASS="mw-redirect" HREF="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Albularyo" TARGET="_blank" TITLE="Albularyo" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">albularyo</A></I> (herbalist) are usually cheaper alternatives to medical doctors in the Philippines, especially in very deep rural areas.</P>
<P>A <I>Manghihilot</I> employs chiropractic-like manipulation and massage for the diagnosis and treatment of musculoskeletal ailments. They also have been known to reset dislocated and sprained joints such as the knee, ankle, fingers and metacarpal bones. An <I>Albularyo</I> use herbs in addition to massage. The term <I>hilot</I> is also applied to traditional midwives, licensed or otherwise.</P>
<P><SPAN>This workshop will be lead by a teacher from </SPAN><A HREF="https://mastershishir.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Shishir</A><SPAN>. There are several Filipino healing systems using energy, faith, herbs, lakas flow. Hilot combines manipulations, release of energy blockages to free up healing energies and nuetralize the blockages or trauma.</SPAN></P>

<H2><SPAN>The Kapwa Festival supports new collaborative works and mentorship of emerging artists through song, dance, martial arts, ceremony, space, time and movement. </SPAN></H2>
<H4>We all come from somewhere, from someone, from many. Unraveling our ancestral pasts, weaving our histories together, each of us, one patch of a quilted blanket. Piling stacks of blankets detailing human history in our collective memory, quintessential to healing our communities with warmth, knowledge and understanding toward future collective harmony. Many have arrived in Vancouver with stories. Many who are at different stages of understanding their own indigeneity, in solidarity with First Nations who fight to keep their language or to keep the land and waters clean and free. Some are a part of the global diaspora, immigrants, refugees – all settlers, always learning, in process of decolonizing. We honour those who have been here for centuries longer than Captain Vancouver was and we seek to connect our commonalities in traditions and human understanding through the equally deep, rich and beautifully interwoven First Nations cultures that have been built on storytelling.</H4>
<H3><SPAN></SPAN><SPAN>“Kapwa Festival offers a temporary time and space for collaboration between Filipinos in the diaspora and urban indigenous cultural artists. In the long term we hope to be able to host a permanent space that allows more rehearsal and collaboration space and our own venue for ongoing workshops and presentations. We also wish to be able to showcase artworks that represent Filipino indigenous cultures.”</SPAN></H3>
