It can be easy to get caught up in the hectic pace of a student routine. But, what if we were looking towards something larger than our day-to-day responsibilities? What if we kept our focus on the horizon?
Horizon, Sprott DECA’s fourth annual conference, is a 3-day event focused on building confident, young leaders through case competitions, workshops, and networking events. In an age of innovation and globalization, there is more opportunity than ever before for students to push the scope of their interests, knowledge and perspective. Through Horizon, you will be encouraged to develop key leadership abilities that push you to ignite change and keep your eyes on the horizon.

Am I an Internal or External Delegate?
External tickets are for those delegates who will be requiring a hotel room for the duration of the conference. If you will not be requiring accommodations, you may purchase the internal delegate ticket. This year's accommodations will be at the Raddison Hotel in Downtown Ottawa. What Case Categories Can I Compete in? 
Individual
Human Resources Management
Participants are a given a case situation that measures skills, knowledge, and attitudes in human resources management. Cases can relate recruiting, training, employee relations, benefits and/or maximizing employee productivity.
Event Planning
Participants are given a case situation that measures skills and knowledge in event planning. They will be challenged to apply project management (general knowledge of marketing, finance, management assets) to the creation and development of events such as festivals and conferences.
Accounting
Participants are given a case situation that covers the application of accounting theory and skills. They will be challenged to measure and process financial information through various financial statements.
Restaurant &amp; Food Services
Participants are given a case situation that measures their knowledge of the business aspects of the restaurant and foodservice industry. They will be challenged to apply knowledge in areas of marketing, finance, and management to find solutions for problems presented in the case.
 
Team
International Business
Participants are given a description of a situation that will measure their knowledge of business in international and cross-cultural contexts. Students will be required to apply this knowledge to find a solution to a business case related to foreign markets.
Sports and Entertainment Marketing
Participants are given a case situation that measures their knowledge of marketing principles applied to the field of sports and entertainment. They will be challenged to provide solutions to a marketing dilemma that can include sports, entertainment and other recreational events.
Marketing Management
The students are given a description of a specific situation that measures skills, knowledge and attitudes in marketing management. Students will be required to apply marketing theories and techniques towards the organization’s marketing department defined in the case.
 
Entrepreneurship Competition
Sunrise
As a platform to help delegates develop a wide array of business skills, Sprott DECA has chosen to include an entrepreneurial pitch challenge to this year’s collection of case categories. The Sunrise Pitch Challenge intends to inspire and enable DECA entrepreneurs to bring forth their unique ideas and receive valuable feedback. You are able to participate in teams of up too 4 people and will be required to come prepared to the competition with a 5-10 minute presentation, which you will present to a panel of judges. There will also be an additional 5-minute Q&A period at the end of your presentation. For more information, please contact our team below.
