Then Hotlatch Legends will switch into a hot, hot, hot Indigenous rave with beats, lights, and sexy gogo dancers for the rest of the night. Think cabaret… but with a legendary twist. Come enjoy a unique night exploring the legends we tell today: our heroes, champions, teachers, and inspiration. Like ancestors sitting around a fire in a longhouse telling stories to inspire and remind us of where we come from and where we’re going.This event is taking place in Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-watututh territory. We ask all to respect the territories and peoples of these territories. It is organized by Squamish People and open to all people attending. Still, the event is created by and for Queer Indigenous Peoples. Our event prices reflect our value to pay our performers well, as Indigenous talent is often overlooked and underappreciated. No one will be turned away for lack of funds (please contact hotlatch@gmail.com for free tickets if facing financial barriers to attending). We invite those who can to buy a “PAY IT FORWARD” ticket so someone facing financial barriers can attend. Profits made from this event will go towards event planning for future HOTLATCH events.HOTLATCH is a celebration of Queer Indigienity and Indigenous Queerness. Our name is inspired by the widely used term “potlatch.” The term potlatch comes from the Chinook Jargon spoken by our ancestors and the ancestors of many Indigenous Peoples from Oregon to Alaska, with various meanings to each Indigenous coastal culture. Colonial society often compels us to compartmentalize our identities from each other.
