Hour++ of Code: Intro to Python

Hour Plus Plus of Code features various one-off workshops for high school-age students to learn how to code and implement digital tools.

<h3><strong><strong>Intro to Python Workshop</strong></strong></h3><p>The Intro to Python workshop is open to Grade 8-12 students who are interested in learning the basics of the Python programming language and best practices in programming. This workshop will cover Python syntax, variables, conditionals, and loops. It is beginner-friendly and will use<a href="https://workspace.google.com/marketplace/app/colaboratory/1014160490159" title="https://workspace.google.com/marketplace/app/colaboratory/1014160490159" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> Google Colaboratory</a>. Don’t forget to review the<a href="https://sciencealive.ca/python-basics" title="https://sciencealive.ca/python-basics" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> workshop overview and requirements</a> before registering!</p><p><br></p><h4><strong><strong>Summary of Workshop Details</strong></strong></h4><p>Date: February 14th, 2026 (Saturday)</p><p>Time: 10 am -12 pm</p><p>Grades: 8-12</p><p>Cost: Free</p><p>Location: Virtual via Zoom. The meeting link will be opened 30 minutes before the workshop starts for students to test their setup (e.g. is your audio working?).</p><p><br></p><h4><strong><strong>Workshop Requirements</strong></strong></h4><ul><li>Internet access</li><li>Laptop/desktop computer</li><li>Google account with<a href="https://workspace.google.com/marketplace/app/colaboratory/1014160490159" title="https://workspace.google.com/marketplace/app/colaboratory/1014160490159" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> Google Colaboratory</a> installed. We will be using Colab notebooks for this workshop.</li></ul><p><br></p><h4><strong><strong>Additional Notes</strong></strong></h4><ul><li>We use the same learning materials as past workshops. If you attended a workshop with the same description, the materials presented will be the same. However, if you need a refresher on that specific topic, please feel free to join the workshop again!</li><li>The Zoom link will be sent before the event.</li><li>The meeting link will be open 30 minutes before the workshop starts for attendees to test their setup (e.g. is your audio working?).</li><li>Please only sign up if you can attend the workshop and please cancel your Eventbrite ticket if you can no longer attend the workshop.
