Hydrangea Wagashi Workshop

Nikkei Centre is a multi-use facility at the corner of Kingsway and Sperling in Burnaby, BC. Officially opened on September 22, 2000, the Centre houses a Japanese Canadian cultural centre, the Nikkei National Museum, a community centre serving the neighbourhood, and a Japanese Canadian garden.

Wagashi Workshops

Learn how to make Japanese traditional sweets with Sen Sakamoto of Kintoki Sweets.

Wagashi WorkshopsA beginner-friendly series of hands-on cooking workshops to learn the fundamentals of Japanese style confections (commonly called 和菓子 wagashi), traditionally enjoyed with tea.

About the WorkshopA quick introduction at the beginning of the class will cover the history and tradition of the seasonal wagashi, and a chance to learn about some of the lesser-known ingredients. A hands-on approach will let the students learn the different techniques to create these traditional confections, and at the end of the class, attendees will get to take home their creations.Equipment and ingredients will be provided. All skill levels are welcome.  However, we will be working in a fast-paced kitchen environment, so a minimum age of 16 is recommended. Please bring your own apron and a small container to take home your creations at the end of the class.
