HyperfiXation: Opening Reception
SUM gallery presents a solo exhibition of hand-cut collage works by Jay Cabalu
Join us for the Opening Reception of HyperfiXation on Thursday, May 7, 5–9pm.
Jay Cabalu’s solo exhibition excavates his obsession with consumption and the exploitation of beauty in manufactured magazine images. Through a selection of hand-cut collages that employ scopophilia (taking pleasure in looking), he demonstrates how capitalism fabricates consent and compliance to material culture.
HyperfiXation runs until May 29 as part of a suite of events at SUM gallery that celebrate Asian Heritage Month. This exhibition has been generously supported by The Parachute Fund.
Please note: to accommodate members of our community, from 5–6pm the Opening Reception will be masks-mandatory; from 6pm to close, masks are recommended. Masks and hand sanitizer will be available at the reception desk.
