Addressing how criminalization impacts our communities as well as associated ripple effects (victimization, mis/non/representation).

The Decolonization Working Group of Brock’s President’s Advisory Committee for Human Rights, Equity and Decolonization (PACHRED) will host a symposium entitled Indigenous De/Criminalization Symposium. We feel it is necessary to address not only how criminalization impacts our communities but also why, when, and the ripple effects (victimization, mis/non/representation). We feel it is also necessary to bring in the richness, strength of spirit, and joy of our nations into the symposium and will weave artists/performers throughout the day.

Elder Dave Labbe (Innu)Keynote:Beverly Jacobs. Mohawk Nation of the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Bear Clan.Senior Advisor to the President on Indigenous Relations and Outreach at University of Windsor. She practices law part-time at her home community Six Nations. Her research focuses on Indigenous Legal Orders, Indigenous Wholistic Health, Indigenous Research Methodologies, and Decolonization of Eurocentric Law.Invited Guests:Edna Campos – Gladue Report and Indigenous Justice.LUNCH BREAK (Provided)Megan Scribes – Ininiw iskwew, Norway House Cree Nation.
