Indigenous Science and Knowledge Driving Transformative Solutions

Sustainability in the Digital Age (SDA) is a think tank at Concordia University and host to the Future Earth Canada Hub. Together we explore how digital innovation can be used in support of healthy people and planet, in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).Durabilité à l’Ère Numérique (DEN) est un groupe de réflexion de l'Université Concordia et l’hôte du pôle canadien de Future Earth.

When is Town Hall #3?Wednesday October 6, 2021 at 1-3PM (EDT) via Zoom. Registration is free. What is the topic for Town Hall #3?Indigenous-led sustainable development and conservation projects grounded in Indigenous Science and Knowledge offer transformative pathways to address the climate crisis and ongoing inequality. Amidst brilliant successes in Canada, there are also challenges for Indigenous Peoples, including issues around Rights and Responsibilities, scientific and academic data sovereignty, access to broadband connectivity, and inclusion of Indigenous voices in policy change. We will explore the potential of digital technologies in this space to disrupt systems, while fostering constructive dialogue to align Indigenous and non-Indigenous science in various fields and environmentalism. What do we need to do to create more inclusive socio-economic development in Canada?Who will participate in Town Hall #3?Here is the incredible line-up of speakers for this virtual town hall:

Dr. Lorna Williams, Wánosts’a7

Bob Watts, VP Indigenous Relations and Strategic Programs ; Adjunct Professor, Queens University

Ken Paul, Wolastoqey Nation

Ietsénhaienhs Teiotsistohkwathe Jessica Lazare

Ratsienhaienhs Cody Diabo

Jocelyn Joe-Strack, Daqualama

Moderator: Erin Dixon

We are also counting on you to participate and spark dialogue on this important topic! Why should you attend Town Hall #3 on “Indigenous Science and Knowledge Driving Transformative Solutions”?As Éliane Ubalijoro, Director of Sustainability in the Digital Age says: “People in Canada are already facing the devastating social and economic effects of climate change. From extreme record-breaking heat in the Pacific Northwest to melting ice caps and permafrost in the North, to negative impacts of fires, air pollution, shifting precipitation patterns, all overlaid on the pandemic, and rising inequality – Canada is in trouble. Now is the time for concrete action and collective awareness on sustainability solutions. These dialogues are about actions, solutions created by working together, and about the creation of new policies, standards and ways forward.”Don’t miss out on this exciting opportunity to learn from diverse speakers and to contribute to a digital action plan for Canada’s Sustainable Future with other participants and policymakers.Come and engage with us!

Bob Watts, VP Indigenous Relations and Strategic Programs ; Adjunct Professor, Queens University

Ken Paul, Wolastoqey Nation

Ietsénhaienhs Teiotsistohkwathe Jessica Lazare

Ratsienhaienhs Cody Diabo

Jocelyn Joe-Strack, Daqualama

Moderator: Erin Dixon
