Artists' Play Dance and Circus Arts

This workshop is facilitated by <a href="https://vernalwisdom.ca/" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Jayeden W</a>.In this intro workshop, we will spend time exploring some options for creating disability-centered circus performances while holding space for the nuances and complexities of that process. Drawing from my own experiences of creating access-integrated work, and learning from disabled artists like Erin Ball and Kathleen Rea, this workshop is designed to start the conversation in considering the different ways that you can share your work to meet the needs of a variety of different audiences. ACCESS NOTESClass Notes: This is a 1 hour lecture style class taught in English, with some kinaesthetic learning opportunities. You&#x27;re welcome to take breaks and move around as needed. Seating is on the floor of a dance studio, on mats, or chairs can be provided as needed.Venue: Artists&#x27; Play is located on the 2nd floor of an industrial building. There is a 6 inch (16cm) elevation at the main entrance to the building where there is an elevator to the 2nd floor. The studio is down a series of hallways on concrete floors through multiple manual, industrial doors. Rehearsals will take place inside Studios 2 and/or 3, which have marley dance floors and are separated from the main studio space. Lit with overhead fluorescent lighting, and sounds of talking and music from other studios can sometimes be heard from within the rehearsal spaces. There is a small lip (approx 1&quot;) on both studio doors. Doors are extra wide and can easily fit a wheelchair through them. Washrooms inside of the space are non-gendered, but not wide enough to accommodate a wheelchair in the narrow stalls.Transit: Accessible via the 72 Pape Bus or 2 blocks from the Queen Streetcar. There is a bike rack out front of the building. Paid street parking is also available out front, though space is limited. We encourage other methods of transportation where possible.COVID-19: Activities will take place indoors in a closed space. Artists&#x27; Play&#x27;s Studio 2 has a small HEPA filter that can be turned on for better air circulation. Please do not attend if you have any symptoms of COVID-19.
