Introduction to R workshop

ECOsystem Services, COmmercialization Platforms and EntrepreneurshipECOSCOPE is anNSERC CREATEtraining program at the U. of British Columbia that provides students and post-docs with the skills needed to translate academic research into commercial and entrepreneurial activities. ECOSCOPE is centered on the 4 pillars ofmicrobial ecology, biological engineering, data science, and entrepreneurship.As part of our data science training, we offer various workshops in R/RStudio, Git, python, high-throughput computing, and others. These workshops are also open and available to the public.

In this 2-hr workshop, we introduce you to R and RStudio at the beginner level. This is a pre-requisite for all our other workshops.

About the WorkshopIn this workshop, we introduce you to R and RStudio at the beginner level. This condensed 2-hour workshop is meant to get you started in R and acts as a pre-requisite for ALL our other workshopsYou will learn how to:<ul><li>navigate RStudio including data and packages</li><li>organize your work with scripts and projects</li><li>import data from a file or on the web</li><li>create and work with basic data types and data structures (vector, data frame, etc.)</li><li>find help with functions in R</li></ul>This workshop will take place in person, if there are any changes, we will change it to Zoom and a Zoom link will be provided to participants prior to the workshop via email.SessionsWe will have 3 separate intro to R workshops, please choose the one that is most convenient for you!<ul><li>Tuesday, Sept 21, 2:00 - 4:00pm</li><li>Tuesday, Oct 19, 2:00 - 4:00pm</li><li>Tuesday, Nov 16, 2:00 - 4:00pm</li></ul>Pre-requisitesNone - You just need to have a laptop, or borrow one at <a href="https://services.library.ubc.ca/computers-technology/technology-borrowing/?login?login" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer">UBC Library Technology Borrowing</a>Funding and FeesECOSCOPE workshop fees are collected on a cost recovery basis only. We strongly encourage students and postdocs interested to ask their research supervisors to cover these fees in order to sustain the workshop initiative. Supervisor payments can be made directly to ECOSCOPE using journal vouchers.
