Join us on April 26 for an engaging conversation with Keith Taylor. Keith will speak about the Escalator Loan, an innovative scheme to help credit-challenged Canadians escape unmanageable debt, enhance wellbeing, and create other social value benefits.Keith Taylor is a member of the SVC Board and Executive Director of DUCA Impact Lab at DUCA Financial Services Credit Union Ltd.While some forms of debt can be positive and constructive, unmanageable debt takes a serious toll on a person’s mental health, physical health, behavior, and prospects. To alleviate the negatives effects, in 2022 DUCA Impact Lab worked on an Escalator Loan to help credit challenged individuals escape bad credit terms and access fair credit repayments. DUCA helped those trapped in the vicious cycle created by loan sharks by providing accessible credit, education, and advice to help people avoid or get out of high interest debt. Additionally, DUCA provided structured loan repayments according to the individual’s cash flow to help ensure success. Aside from the obvious financial benefits, relief from unmanageable debt can enable significant positive outcomes. DUCA engaged in an SROI study in order catalogue those outcomes and express their value. Impacts explored include a wide variety of improvements to mental & physical health, and to overall quality of life.Join us to learn more about DUCA’s vision for the Escalator Loan, its potential to impact Canadians, and how the value of that impact might be valued by individuals, their our communities and governments.
