Threshold Housing Society provides safe housing, support services, and community to at risk youth, ages 16 to 24 years old. Threshold serves youth who have aged out of care and have joined the program due to needing more assistance to sustainably age into adulthood. Through the Threshold program, youth have access to case-workers and a robust life-skills program that help youth create healthy relationships and gain access to mental health supports, family re-connection, and assistance in applying for training/ employment.Threshold aims to steer youth away from adult homelessness by providing them with the supports necessary to become healthy and thriving young adults.

Threshold Housing Society is hosting a key note and panel discussion on harm reduction for youth.

Is harm reduction the gateway to recovery?Join Threshold for a livestreamed conversation on harm reduction for youth with Guy Felicella, B.C&#x27;s Representative for Children and Youth Dr. Jennifer Charlesworth, Dr. Bernie Pauly, and more. On June 16th, 2022, Threshold Housing society is hosting a keynote speaking event and panel discussion. We have invited experts, people with lived experience, and researchers to help share knowledge, reduce stigma, and inform discourse on youth harm reduction practices. The goal of the event is to highlight harm reduction as a strategy to save lives and enable progress toward healing and recovery. Harm reduction is an approach or strategy aimed at reducing the risks and harmful effects associated with substance use for the individual, the community and society as a whole. It is deemed a realistic, pragmatic, humane and successful approach to addressing issues of substance use. Such interventions aim to heal the person as a whole. Different people need different supports and solutions. The key here is to work with a person where they are at, and to give them choices and options. Rather than just addressing problematic substance use on its own, treatment interventions also need to address other challenges that may have either led to or arisen from the use of substances. In thinking about addressing problematic substance use and addictions, it is also important to consider and address broader structural factors that underlie and produce harms.Threshold Housing Society has been providing housing and supports to at-risk youth ages 15 – 24 in Greater Victoria for the past 31 years. Our mandate is to house vulnerable youth who are experiencing homelessness or are at risk of homelessness, and to augment the experience of being safely housed with innovative programming, individualized case management, and increasing connections to community-based supports. The Threshold Housing Supportive Recovery Housing Program features an inter-disciplinary team, providing 24/7 support to youth through a robust recovery-oriented program, all within a safe home environment. This program prioritizes recovery and healing from trauma, learning life and coping skills, and re-connection with family and natural supports, all through a holistic and harm reduction approach.This event is going to be livestreamed via Zoom.
