Description

This weekend long event will provide opportunities for participants to interact with industry experts (potential contacts for their career or a new business venture). Participants will have the chance to pitch their own ideas or to be a member of a team working on a new idea.

Nova Scotia's Ocean Sector

The ocean sector directly generates 8.1% of Nova Scotia’s GDP with an economic impact of $2.6 billion. Large multimillion dollar funding programs from both the provincial and federal government ensure that there will be growth available for those with the skills and creativity to find opportunities for their ideas.

Refreshments will be provided throughout the event.

Brief overview of events:

Friday

  • Panel discussion on challenges and opportunities in Oceans
  • Participants pitch ideas
  • Teams form to explore these ideas

Saturday

  • Teams work on ideas (evaluating and modifying during the day)
  • Experts and mentors will be available to provide feedback on the ideas

Sunday

  • Teams finalize ideas and prepare for a brief presentation
  • Presentations are evaluated by judges and awards are given

Networking will occur over the course of the weekend between participants as well as with experts and mentors that will be attending.

Parking

Free parking available in lots around campus Dalhousie for free after 4:30pm on Friday and all day Weekends (Saturday and Sunday)

Scheulde:

5:30 pm - Welcome & Speakers: Review agenda for the weekend and introduce speakers

5:45 pm - Challenges in Ocean Frontier: Expert panel discussing what challenges and opportunities there are in HFX

6:30 pm- Dinner & Networking: Eat food, share ideas, practice pitches, get to know fellow participants

7:30 pm - Pitches: Participants have the option to give a pitch on their idea

8:00 pm - Voting: Attendees vote for top pitches

8:15 pm - Form Teams: Teams start forming and discussing ideas

9:00 pm - Begin Work: Start to formalize teams and take inventory of skills. Determine what resources and skills are needed for weekend.

12:00 am - Venue Closes: Participants are free to continue working until the building closes if they wish.


Saturday, November 25th, 2017

10:00 am - Breakfast: (continental breakfast)

10:30 am - Business Model Canvas: Explanation on BMC and how to proceed for weekend

11:00 am - Begin Work: Teams formed begin to investigate their ideas for the day

1:00 pm - Lunch

1:30 pm - Check-In: After-lunch check in, status reports, call for help

2:00 pm to 5:00 pm - Coach Meetings: Coaches help teams one-on-one.

6:00 pm - Dinner

7:00 pm - Check-In: After dinner check-in, status reports, call for help

12:00 am - Venue Closes: Participants are free to continue working until the building closes if they wish.


Sunday, November 26th, 2017

10:00 am - Breakfast: (continental breakfast)

10:30 am - Begin Work: Teams conclude development of their idea and begin preparing their presentation

11:30 pm - Check-In: After-lunch check in, status reports, call for help

1:00 pm - Lunch

2:00 pm - Presentation Prep & Tech Check

3:00 pm - Final Presentations

3:45 pm - Nova Scotia Entrepreneurial Programs
