The Geotechnical Society of Edmonton is pleased to present:Learning from Quick Clays: Implications for Long-Term Behaviour of Young Geomaterialsby Dr. Arazoo Patel, Ph.D. - Research Associate, NAIT Applied Research <h3>Abstract:</h3>This presentation aims to provide value to both students and technical professionals. It will focus on explaining how quick clays are formed and the changes in soil properties, such as liquid limit and strength, which will be particularly relevant for students. Additionally, the presentation will explore how this knowledge can help evaluate whether young geomaterials, such as polymer-treated samples, might exhibit similar long-term behaviors to quick clays. <h3>Biography:</h3>Dr. Arazoo Patel is a Research Lead at NAIT’s Technology Access Center for Energy and Environmental Sustainability, where she leads applied research projects on sustainable tailings management in collaboration with industry partners. She holds a Ph.D. in Geoenvironmental Engineering from Carleton University, specializing in the long-term consolidation behavior of treated oil sands tailings and soft soils. Her research interests include advanced geotechnical testing, tailings dewatering technologies, and long-term consolidation behaviour of soft soils and tailings and time-dependent effects. Dr. Patel’s current work focuses on investigating the influence of different tailings treatment technologies on the geotechnical behavior of tailings. <h3>Parking:</h3>Hourly parking available in Zone M Parkade.
