You will be assigned a table so you can work more on your problem pitch and smart contract (related to problem pitch) code. CryptoChicks and/or other judges will be available to mentor you. By the end, we would like to see your code in action and evaluate it. Build your presentations and start coding NOW! NOTE: You also have the option of working on one of the coding scenarios available at http://www.cs.uleth.ca/~benkoczi/bchack/HACKATHON-CHALLENGES/ . However, in this case you will only be considered for the individual Problem Pitch and Coding prizes and not the overall grand prizes. Other Participants: Even if you havent registered for competitions or submitted a problem pitch, you can still win a coding prize by coding one of the scenarios available at http://www.cs.uleth.ca/~benkoczi/bchack/HACKATHON-CHALLENGES/ . Start coding NOW! 2) BCHack 2019 Finale Saturday March 16, 9:30am - 3:00pm University of Lethbridge, UHall Atrium Teams: YOU DO NOT NEED TO REGISTER for this. It features information which can be of great use in developing your problem pitches.) Dr. Greg Vilk(UILO): Updates from the Blockchain and Technology Symposium (March 5-6, Edmonton) Abstract: The symposium featured the who-is-who of Alberta's Blockchain and AI scene. Speakers from Deloitte ATB, BDC and others spoke about industry needs, skill shortage and other issues. This is a brief summary of what Muhammad and I discovered at the event. There is a little surprise for you, too! Feedback Session on Problem Pitches and Smart Contracts Abstract: Each team will have an opportunity to discuss their problem pitch ideas and/or smart contracts with the organizing committee. Feedback will be provoded to help you fine-tune and prepare for the competitions. Ajayraj Tedlapu(Math & CS): Smart Contracts Coding Activity (Deploying smart contracts on a blockchain) Fifth Workshop Friday, March 1st, 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.University of Lethbridge, Anderson Hall 177 (AH 177) Dr. Rossitsa Yalamova (Dhillon School of Business): Blockchain technology in a Complex Society Abstract: My goal is to examine blockchain promise and capacity while cautioning about possible technology misuse by ill-intended groups. The focus will be on the following: Blockchain promise for democratization and decentralization, Capacity for mending the ills of an ailing system or blind faith and hope of desperate people, Or next technology trap that will further enslave us into the matrix. Dr. Robert Benkoczi and Dr. Muhammad Khan (Math & CS): Problem Pitches, Team Formation and Competitions Abstract: Participants will be given an opportunity to mingle, discuss their problem pitches and form teams. The idea behind the hackathon is for teams to identify a real-world problem, propose a blockchain enabled solution, and deploy part/whole of it using smart contracts. Teams can choose to focus on all/some of these aspects. Prizes will be awarded for each, but the biggest winners will be the ones with a business idea and a smart contract to back it. A team having a mix of backgrounds and expertise is likely to do better. Mahshid Aghania (Math & CS): Hands-on Smart Contracts Lab (lottery application) Fourth Workshop Friday, Feb 22, 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m. University of Lethbridge, Anderson Hall 177 (AH 177) Dr. Muhammad Khan (Math & CS): Problem Pitches and Blockchain Enabled Solutions for the Hackathon Abstract: The idea behind the hackathon is for teams to identify a real-world problem, propose a blockchain enabled solution, and deploy part/whole of it using smart contracts. Teams can choose to focus on all/some of these aspects. Prizes will be awarded for each, but the biggest winners will be the ones with a business idea and a smart contract to back it. So, a team having a mix of backgrounds and expertise is likely to do better. Khan: Decentralization via Blockchain: A No-Strings-Attached Framework Abstract: Blockchain means different things to different parties. From mining cryptocurrencies to reducing accounting overhead and from supply chain management to smart contracts, blockchain technology serves many different needs. This talk describes the decentralized framework common to most of these applications. We discuss how blockchain delivers transparency, immutability and consensus in a peer-to-peer setting, without focusing on any particular application. Participants would be able to interpret the talk in the context of their backgrounds and interests. No strings attached! Mahshid Aghania: Hands-on Lab Activities
