Founded in 2013, Design Talks Institute (d.talks) is a grassroots, non-profit organization dedicated to advancing thinking and dialogue around architecture, art and design within the urban environment. Through exhibitions, workshops, seminars, and conferences, the organization facilitates wide-ranging discussions that cover a range of contemporary issues on spatial form, distilling how these relate at the local level. Curiosity and a desire to find common ground through compelling inquiry propel and sustain the organization. At d.talks, a question is always as important as an answer.

We connect with our built environment through stories, most of which are passed down over time. Join a conversation to explore how stories go missing, or how some perspectives remain below the radar. Community is built upon understanding and empathy. What changes as we bring different stories together?Hear from:Avnish Nanda, legal advisor,<a href="http://www.nandalaw.ca/home" target="_blank" data-msys-clicktrack="0" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer"> Nanda Law </a>and author of "Litigating Death in Care Cases in Alberta" and editor of "Reflections on the Komagata Maru".Catherine Hamel, associate professor of architecture at the School of Architecture, Planning and Landscape at the University of Calgary. Daryl KootenayDespina Stratigakos, architectural historian and author of Where Are The Women Architects (2016), Hitler At Home (2015), and co-creator of Architect Barbie by Mattel (2011).

When should I arrive?Doors open at 6pm with refreshments. Program begins at 6:30pm.What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?Arrive by train at the City Hall LRT station. Nearest bus stops are on 3 Street SE and on 9 Avenue SE.Park your bike on site: racks are located on all sides of the building.
