This workshop is a hands-on introduction to the fascinating world of letterpress printing, a technology rooted in the 15th century.

This is a general lesson and intro to Letterpress with a particular focus on typography and designing with type. We&#x27;ll discuss kerning technique and style, how to set and lock up wood/metal type and hand-inking techniques.You’ll learn the basics, including Letterpress terminology, hand-setting wood and lead type, make-ready, ink mixing and hand-inking.Duration: 1 hourDate: October 14, 2023Time: 1:00 PM to 2:00 PMClass size: 10 max.Meet the instructor: Joe Borges has been designing for 25 years. In his career as a graphic designer, he uses a MAC with all its fancy electronic programs, but he has always been fascinated with the old-school process of hand typesetting and the black art of letterpress.Letterpress gives him the opportunity to marry two of his passions: Designing and working with his hands. Setting the letters by hand, tweaking the press, mixing inks, pulling the lever, and humbly smiling at the finished product is extremely rewarding.
