Canadian pianist Libby Yu* then takes the stage for Tchaikovsky’s monumental Piano Concerto No. 1, a romantic tour de force filled with soaring melodies, thunderous chords, and dazzling virtuosity. The program closes with Shostakovich’s Suite from Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk, a vivid, biting, and darkly humorous portrait of human drama, brimming with the composer’s signature intensity and theatrical flair.
