Public Library Services Branch Staff

In 2015 and 2016 respectively, Public Library Services Branch hosted symposia for public library staff from across Alberta. Both symposia were two-day events dedicated to investigating identified current library service priorities: libraries serving patrons with print disabilities (2015) and libraries facilitating early childhood literacy (2016). These annual symposia offer a unique opportunity for librarians to thoroughly explore a specific topic directly related to their day-to-day work. The symposia have made an impact on library service as well as on provincial direction. This session will explore the outcomes of each of the symposia for both PLSB and public libraries, including the symposium reports, provincial policy development, and on-the-ground impact of the events. We will also provide a provincial scan of library service in these areas and discuss future library symposia.
