Lunch n' Learn: Exploring Dev Containers and GitHub Codespaces

HackRegina is a strong and well-known tech community for Regina, SK. The non-profit organization started as a small Slack channel but has begun to grow into a community for software developers to share knowledge and get to know one another. Through hosting events and our Slack channel, we hope to create a network of Regina tech companies to both share knowledge and help Regina stay ahead of the latest technologies.

Speaker - Daniel Schroeder, Individual Contributor at iQmetrixDan has been writing software for over 2 decades, and blogging about it for over a decade. He has a passion for creating productivity tools, and tools to help make developers' lives easier. He enjoys sharing information and helping others through his blog, YouTube videos, presentations, and in person. He lives in Saskatchewan, Canada with his wife, son, and dogs, and enjoys hiking and rollerblading when he is not consumed by one of his many personal projects, most of which can be found on GitHub.Event detailsDev Containers are used to provide a shared development experience for your dev team. They enable everyone to use the same toolset and can allow developers new to a project to get up and running quickly, without having to install a bunch of development dependencies on their local machine. In this session, Dan will demo some Dev Containers he has created, explain some of the problems they solve, and show how you can get started with them in Visual Studio Code. Time permitting, we will also take a brief look at GitHub Codespaces and how they relate to Dev Containers.The talk will be located in the Pitch Space at 2735 College Ave hosted by Cultivator.
