Mahler- the Titan

Mahler- the Titan

By West Coast Symphony Orchestra

Overview

A sparkling overture, a brilliant piccolo concerto, and Mahler’s mighty Titan — the season ends in triumph.

Our season closes with Korngold’s Much Ado About Nothing Overture, a sparkling, witty curtain-raiser brimming with romance and theatrical flair. Piccolo soloist Sarah Jackson* then takes the spotlight in Lowell Liebermann’s Piccolo Concerto, a dazzling display of agility, colour, and spirit. The finale belongs to Mahler’s Symphony No. 1 “The Titan”, a monumental journey from the first stirrings of spring to a triumphant, blazing conclusion — the perfect farewell to a season of unforgettable music.

Program:

Korngold: Much Ado about Nothing Suite, Op. 11, Overture

Liebermann: Piccolo Concerto, Op. 50*

Mahler: Symphony No. 1 in D major, "The Titan"

Financially, the orchestra relies on the generosity of audience members to offset concert and overhead costs, which average $35 per person per concert. The suggested donation of $30 per person can be contributed through Eventbrite on the next page.
