We stand by the idea of social inclusion and a productive society that includes people with disabilities and gives them equal opportunity to contribute and participate.We will also feature a library of various open-source assistive technology projects, with parts, instructions, and reviews to support makers helping people with disabilities in their community.Our flagship project is the LipSync.

Makers Making Change, a project of the Neil Squire Society

This is an event that leverages the maker movement and volunteerism to build an open source assistive technology, the LipSync (<A HREF="http://www.makersmakingchange.com/lipsync" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">www.makersmakingchange.com/lipsync</A>). The LipSync, a mouth-controlled joystick, furthers the accessibility of Android smartphones and touchscreen devices for people with little or no arm movement. It allows a person to control an onscreen cursor with minimal head and neck movement. Each LipSync that’s built will be donated to people with disabilities in Saskatchewan. An open-source hardware project funded by Google, the LipSync uses 3D printed parts, an Arduino Mini board, and other common parts that can be soldered to a circuit board and built in a day. Volunteers will be given a short class on how to solder and mentors will be available to help with any problems. 
Teams will be supplied with the tools, components, parts and instructions, and will work together to assemble, solder, 3D print components and transfer the code onto an Arduino board. They will be supported by the LipSync creators, the Neil Squire Society, and their new program, Makers Making Change: connecting makers to people with disabilities to create open-source assistive technologies.
