Samaritans Training & Engagement Programmes

The course is aimed at delegates whose job/volunteer role could bring them into contact with a suicidal person, providing them with the knowledge and skills to provide support to an individual. If you or someone you know requires emotional support, please call Samaritans’ free helpline 116 123.This course is suitable for anyone who position may bring them into contact with people who have suicidal thoughts.At the end of this course attendees will be able to:<ul><li>Appreciate the profile of suicide in the UK and ROI.</li><li>Understand the background factors and feelings that can lead to suicidal thoughts .</li><li>Recognise direct and indirect signs of suicidal ideation.</li><li>Develop skills to manage a suicidal conversation sensitively and effectively.</li><li>Explore strategies to assess and respond to risk.</li><li>Know how and where to signpost to sources of additional support.</li></ul>Additional information:Course resources:<ul><li>Digital workbook</li></ul>Attendee feedback:The training has helped ensure that our staff are equipped to engage with customers in a sensitive and compassionate way.
