Managing Your WELLness

WomenEducating inLaw andLife was created by women from both the Crown Attorney’s Office and the Defence bar who saw the need to foster discussion, mentorship and collegiality amongst women in the criminal bar.  Our objective is to create a forum for female members of the criminal bar to share practice tips, gain insight into how to improve and expand advocacy skills and, most importantly, build supportive relationships and collegiality across the courtroom.

WELL Women Educating in Law and Life

The panel will discuss common challenges  & strategies to cope  with burnout, vicarious trauma & challenges from accused and witnesses.

Toronto Lawyers Association (TLA)

<p>This program will feature a panel of Crown and Defence counsel, an expert in Burnout and Vicarious Trauma and a police officer who deals with High Risk offenders. The panel will discuss common challenges facing female lawyers dealing with burnout, vicarious trauma and concerning situations, from clients, accused or witnesses. It will also discuss mechanisms to deal with these issues The panel will also discuss vicarious trauma, strategies on how to identify it and strategies to deal with it. The panel will also discuss supporting each others concerns specific to female lawyers. The session will encourage an open dialogue between the panel and participants, providing a safe space in which to express security concerns, burnout and vicarious trauma with more senior counsel. All counsel will hear about lessons learned by senior counsel, experts in the field, including tips about how to incorporate those lessons into their own management of wellness and build resilience. These topics are often difficult.  Work life balance is a critical skill to learn in this profession, particularly for female counsel who often face additional strains taking care of a family.</p><p>Panel coming soon</p>
