Do I need to know how to play chess to attend?

No! We welcome new players - we will be teaching the rules to those new to the game. :)

Question 2

I'm a high rated player, is this event still for me?

Accepted Answer

Yes! We have registration when you arrive so that everyone wears a label with rating/elo so that you can find those of a similar rating for a good challenge. We will also organize a timed round-robin league for those who are interested in joining. ($5 entry fee, purchase here on Eventbrite!)

Can kids attend?

They sure can! All ages and levels are welcome.

Question 4

Tell me about the round-robin tournament.

Accepted Answer

We will be running an optional round-robin tournament for intermediate & advanced chess players. It will be a $5 entry fee, and there will be a prize pool! One group will be U1000, and a second group will be Open.

Question 5

Last time, there were no tables left for casual play once the tournament began. :(

We apologize about the limited chess boards - the event gets more popular every month! So THIS time, we have ordered MORE tables and chess sets to accomodate! We will also reserve at least 8 seats for casual play for the entire event (Casual Game tables will be labelled). :)
