Event description

Description

There are massive shifts happening across the globe.
There is a significant rise in precarious, temporary
contract work; There is a changing shift in how the
wealthy work to manipulate workers and society to
their ends, which has dramatically impacted how
individuals engage with labour and work. The political
spectrum is giving way to an increasingly polarized
climate. While we see a renewed focus on community
activism and building communities of care, we are
also seeing forces opposed to worker solidarity and
labour rights engage in effective targeted campaigns
in communities in ways that are challenging the very
nature and principles of the labour movement.
Progressive, social justice based organizing is
splintered and divided. The Labour movement
continues to be a force for good in this regard.

As part of these efforts, the Mayworks Festival stands
as a commitment to Labour and the Arts, and labour
arts itself. The May Day Gathering is a celebration of
labour arts and the work of the labour movement as a
whole. We welcome everyone to join us for a free
reception which includes exhibitions of The Poor
People’s Campaign and Future is Caregiving.
