Welcome to McMaster Water Week 2017! All events are FREE & OPEN to PUBLIC!


Monday, October 30th 


6 to 9 pm. Opening Ceremony & Keynote Presentation from Dr. Henry Pollack (U of Michigan). McMaster Innovation Park.

Talk will be preceded by a reception. Light refreshments will be avaliable to attendees. 

McMaster Water Week 2017 is proud to present our keynote speaker, Dr. Henry Pollack. As a member of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change), Dr. Pollack shared the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize with former Vice President and environmentalist Al Gore.

Dr. Pollack is currently a Professor Emeritus of geophysics at the University of Michigan. His career has lead him to conduct scientific research on all seven continents and publish widely in academic journals.

Dr. Pollack is known as an excellent writer and public speaker who communicates complex scientific ideas simply and clearly to general audiences. He has also authored two critically-acclaimed general interest books – Uncertain Science, Uncertain World and A World Without Ice

Evening. Lecture by UN University & the McMaster Centre for Climate Change. Location TBD.

Wednesday, November 1st

6 to 9 pm. Career Night. Celebration Hall (KTH 113).

Light refreshments will be provided to attendees.

Chat with professionals from industrial, academic, business, and government sectors working in a variety of fields related to water, environment, and climate in an informal setting. Come out to network, and scope out some exciting career opportunities!

Specific guests to be announced closer to the date, but will be composed of a mix of academic, government, industrial, and business sector representatives.



Thursday, November 2nd


Morning to Afternoon. Field Trip to the Canada Centre for Inland Waters (CCIW). Meet at the Life Sciences Building sign.

This event has very limited space. Transportation will be provided. 

You MUST bring photo ID to enter CCIW.

The Canada Institute for Inland Waters in Burlington, ON, accommodates staff from Environment Canada, the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, the Canadian Coast Guard, and the RCMP. We will visit their research facilities, chat with government scientists, and participate in demonstration of state-of-the-art equipment.


Evening. Documentary screening, "FLOW: For the Love Of Water." BSB B136.

Friday, November 3rd

2 to 4 pm. Student Research Showcase. Location TBA.


Light refreshments will be avaliable to attendees. 

Come and see the innovative and exciting research happening at McMaster University and across Ontario! Students from all disciplines will present their work on water-related issues. Topics include water policy, climate change, sustainability, chemical engineering, environmental contaminants, zoology, and more!

The top posters will receive prizes, presented by The Water Brothers, at the closing ceremony of McMaster Water Week 2017.



4 to 6 pm. Closing Ceremony with special guests, The Water BrothersLocation TBA.

Light refreshments will be avaliable to attendees. 

Alex & Tyler Mifflin are the creators & hosts of the award winning television series, The Water Brothers, that takes them on adventures around the world exploring the most critical water challenges we face in the world today.

Alex & Tyler will speak, and answer questions from the audience.

McMaster Water Network

 The McMaster Water Network is a University-wide initiative to connect water science, technology and policy to deliver local and global impacts. Over 50 faculty members, hundreds of students and alumni, and community partners participate in the network through interdisciplinary research clusters and experiential learning related to selected themes where water science and policy intersect, including: water security and globalization, water quality and health, and the interface of climate, energy and water. The student chapter of MWN is an energetic group of McMaster graduate students from all disciplinary backgrounds with a common interest in water.
