This will be the 7th annual recurrence of the Menscapes conference, put on by the Men’s Wellness Program at AVI Health and Community Services. Menscapes is a one day mini-conference on health and wellness topics for gay, bi, queer men (cis, trans, and two spirit) and those whose lives are intertwined with ours. We at AVI recognize that gender is not a binary and that many folks who are not male-identified love, fuck, and support queer men – you are welcome here.2020 Theme: The Spring ThawImagine our queer community heading into its Spring season. The ground has been frozen and stagnant from the dead of winter. But as the ground begins to thaw, the soil becomes rich with fresh water and nutrients. Our roots start feeding our limbs. The seeds and bulbs painstakingly planted and tended in prior seasons are on the verge of bloom. The days are getting longer, the skies, brighter. We are at the precipice of new growth – new life.As community members, advocates, and activists, we help to shape the conditions for growth. Our voices and our stories have the power to shine light on the seeds of the neglected. We can come together with curiosity and creativity to nourish and support each other. We can share knowledge and resources to better equip us for rising temperatures. We can envision a future that is brighter than today, if only for just a season. Through the ebbs and contractions of new growth, we are stronger together.So what seeds do we need to tend to today? What do we need to be talking about as a community”More about this Event:<ul><li>Food: Lunch and morning/afternoon snacks will be served, as well as coffee and tea. There will be options for folks with dietary restrictions.</li></ul><ul><li>Travel: There will be funding to cover travel and accommodation costs for folks coming from outside Victoria and support arranging travel. Contact us for more information.</li></ul><ul><li>Accessibility: The hotel, event space, and washrooms are wheelchair accessible, there will be access to a gender-neutral washroom, there is a quiet, chill space for people to go hang out if they need to take some space from the conference, there will be counsellors available, being in a hotel means we don’t have much control over scent, but we will be asking attendees to come as scent-free as possible, there will be no nuts served, there will be options for folks with dietary restrictions and allergies, the conference is free and is organized by and for gay, bi, queer men (cis, trans, and two spirit) and those who share deep community with us, we are planning to have an ASL interpreter at the conference.</li></ul>Confirmation emails will be sent to registrants with all necessary details closer to the event. Folks who indicate need for travel support or dietary restrictions will be contacted to coordinate plans.Event takes place on the unceded land of the Lekwungen-speaking people of the Esquimalt and Songhees first nations.
